See a “dreamy” corner of Mani that resembles … South Italy!
Just 8 km away from Gerolimenas, a small fishing village under the protection of the Tigani Peninsula in Mesa Mani (Municipality of Itilo) will fascinate you with the hidden beach that is covered by two towering rocks that form internal sea caves!
Nearby there is the chapel of “Vlaherna” and next to it a tower that reaches the mountain. The scenery creates the brightest image of Mani, but also creates the feeling of nostalgia.
Mezapos is a small fishing port and has an interesting beach between two high rocks in the sea. It seems that the rocks have collapsed and shaped the beach as there are still large pieces of rock there. Also on the rocks you will find two sea caves that you can explore while swimming. The beach is even more exotic with views – it sees the so-called Tigani or Tigani Castle.
The Tigani peninsula is a special challenge for cycling fans. Below Mezapo, from Stavri, a narrow land route begins until Agia Kyriaki, which is nothing but a tower house. From there you need 45 minutes of hiking to the ruins of the 13th century Frankish castle.
For many people this castle is identical with the castle of Megali Mani (Grand Magne), from which all Mani was controlled. It is believed that it is not only identical – but in fact, it is the famous castle itself. Other researchers however place the castle of Megali Mani (Grand Magne) near Porto Cayo.
